D4 CONDO
SOUTH END, BOSTON
STATUS: COMPLETED

“Boston’s most fashionable address”

- PHILIPPE STARCK

This project was awarded to Urbanica in response to a Request for Proposals sponsored by the BRA in 2003. Urbanica was selected over some of the most prominent developers in the city, largely based on their growing reputation as one of the top design/development companies in Boston.

For this project, Urbanica created a unique pairing with the Boston Redevelopment Authority and worldrenowned designer Philippe Starck. This project involved the conversion of the former Boston D‐4 Police Station into a new luxury condominium building with twenty four units of condominiums.

The existing shell is restored to its former state with only minor modifications on the principal elevations. The rear elevation consists of a new two‐story block which combined together with the existing building envelope, forms a courtyard. The new courtyard is covered with a glass roof and conforms to green building concepts.

Working with the BRA, the permitting process was well streamlined, ensuring a smooth development and secure return of investment. Additionally the unique interiors brought a fresh asset to the rapidly gentrifying South End neighborhood.
