CANA 6
MASSPIKE PARCEL 6: CENTRAL ARTERY NORTH AREA
STATUS: PROPOSAL

The project is a response to the RFP by the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority on Parcel 6, Central Artery North Area. The development team envisions Parcel 6 with an iconic building that will be a landmark at the southwest corner of City Square.

The site design takes into consideration of all four sides of the parcel, creating a distinctive building that holds both the large-scale and small-scale urban conditions that characterize the site. The proposed design responds to the variation in the context, transitioning from one edge condition to another.

The building design is inspired by the Charlestown context but reinterprets the architecture into a more contemporary expression consistent with the City Square. The masonry mass is marked with an alternating rhythm of vertical windows and a main corner entrance that fronts the park. The Rutherford Avenue elevation is composed of an angled wall made of nonreflective glass and metal trim. The elevation is intended to be unique and distinctive to mark the importance of Charlestown.
